Each day, the library staff sifts through the documentary materials at hand, indexing them in a database designed for this purpose—resulting in 5,500 entries per year. Particular attention is paid to works published on the 60 or so artists who are the objects of extensive research at the Wildenstein Institute.

Documentation is acquired both through subscriptions (press, auction catalogues, etc.) and through a policy of judicious acquisition (from exhibitions, publications, etc.) for the purposes of research and publications carried out at the Wildenstein Institute; acquisitions (nearly 1,200 titles per year) focus equally on new titles and on works missing from the collection.

The colleagues and contributors of the Wildenstein Institute use this documentation to advance their work; it is also thanks to it that external requests for information can be satisfied.
