Born in Troyes, the sculptor François GIRARDON (1628-1515) worked with Charles Le Brun at Versailles, and completed several large pieces for the château and its gardens, among them Apollon servi par les nymphes in the grove at the Apollo fountains. This work stands out for underlining how important a contribution "this beautiful artist" made of his "disciplined genius" to the elaboration of great classical art.
