The life of Nicolas LANCRET (1690-1743), his friendship with Antoine Watteau, the way that he set himself up as the painter of "fêtes galantes", his vogue among the royal courts and collectors of Europe of his time are traced in the first part of this critical catalogue. The analysis and list of his painted works, divided into 30 thematic series, follow. Works known only through written descriptions or engravings are also included.
