This volume is the fourth monograph on an 18th century artist to have appeared in the collection "L'Art français", directed by Georges Wildenstein. Disciple and intimate of Watteau, a painter of "fêtes galantes" and a captivating colorist, Jean-Baptiste PATER (1695-1736) enjoyed—and continues to enjoy—great renown. The painted works analyzed in this catalogue are divided into sections by themes—theater, country pleasures, games, military scenes, portraits, landscapes—with more than 600 paintings, all reproduced, listed.
